Sherwood Hills

The Sherwood Hills race turned into the almost perfect (no vacation with young children is completely perfect) weekend camping trip.

My seven-year-old son has been begging to ride in a race. The kids’ course at this race was the perfect confidence builder. It was challenging without being too technical. He was very happy with his 4th place finish.

The course was perfect. The ground was semi-dry which meant a rare dust-free ride for the racers. Lots of shade trees kept the majority of the course in the shade (a bonus for riders and spectators). This course has a shorter loop than many races so they split the race into three stages to keep the trails from getting too jammed with riders. The pros may not have liked the 1:30 start, but 10:30 was just right for me in the single-speed category.

This race used to be placed earlier in the race season. Mud and snow have been problems for this race in past years. Let’s hope they keep the later timing. This race is worth the trip.
