With a week full of rain and few outdoor rides, many were doubtful Soldier Hollow would be ride able. But tweets from ICup said differently, so everyone packed up their bikes and headed out to the 9th annual Hammerfest.
Course conditions were less than spectacular and the race was delayed 45 minutes while some quick re-routing was done. The rerouting and time helped, but this still turned out to be a challenging race. The lower sections of the race were soggy and riders felt as if they were pulling a 15 pound weight behind them. Upon reaching the top and going down riders were met with a slick, muddy mess to navigate through.
Despite the challenging conditions Mad Dog riders rode to the occasion with podium finishes by James Rees, Corbin Coombs, Greg Johnson, Kevin Moffitt, Tim Hodnett, Ty Hopkins, Heather Clarke, KC Holley, Dwight Hibdon, Chris Holley, Scott Billings, Brad Mullen, Tiffany Martin, Jennifer Hodnett, Kendra Clark, Lance Nelson, Jared Richards, Jed Clarke, Brady Theobald, Justin Thomas, Dan Richards and Keith Payne. This race pulled Mad Dog Team into first place in the race for the Intermountain Cup, but the race is not over and it is going to be a hot one with more ICup races on the horizon.
Sundance Spin
In true Mad Dog fashion the team showed up in full force to represent on their home turf. This year due to snow packed trails Sundance Spin was moved to Soldier Hollow. There was some speculation on the condition of the course and the direction. However in true ICup style the course condition (minus two mud bogs) was great and the new direction intense, but fun.
Mad Dog riders dug in and rode hard bringing home several spectacular finishes. Topping off with podium finishes going to Chris Broderick , Richard Harris, Brian Blumer, James Rees, Corbin Coombs, Greg Johnson, Joseph Moffitt, Reed Abbott, Kevin Moffitt, Ty Hopkins, Jody Bailey, Tim Fisher, Craig Williams, Chris Holley, KC Holley, Scott Billings, Brad Mullen, Griffin Park, Lance Nelson, Jessika Walker, Keith Payne, Mindy Christensen and finishing off with a Mad Dog sweep in the women's sport division, Heather Clarke, Tiffany Martin and Gayle Olpin. With such a big showing Mad Dog was able to pull closer to UMB in the race for the Intermountain Cup Team Win.
