Road Rides

Fall is fast approaching, bringing with it some of the best time to be out on your road bike! I am including information about the remainder of the season for group road rides along with a plead for help. I need help from anyone who would like to lead a group ride on a Saturday morning in September. There are only six group rides left this year, so it would be great if everyone could come out! Our Tuesday skills clinics have ended, but will come back next year in a bigger, better way.

We will meet at the Orem shop at 8 am on Saturdays for the remainder of the season. In case there is any confusion, since it has changed a little bit, we will meet Saturdays at 8 am at the Orem Mad Dog Cycles. Group rides are open to riders of all skill levels, so we have a "no drop" policy, ensuring everyone sticks together and enjoys the ride.

Additional details about MDC group rides:
  • No Drop policy, stop intermittently to ensure all riders are together
  • Self supported – bring your own water and food, plus clothing for the weather
  • Pace: 14-18 mph, but adjust to the skill of the group
  • Route: The route will be chosen based on skill of the group and time of year - prepare to enjoy a fun, challenging ride with other riders

Here is the schedule for the remainder of the group ride season. If you would like to help one of these days, contact me.

August 28 - Ben Brown
September 4 -
September 11 - Lance Nelson & Tiffany
September 18 -
September 25 -
October 2 -

October 2 will be our last ride, since 24 Hours of Moab, our season-ending event, is on the 9th. Once I hear back from you guys about leading group rides, I will update the calendar. There are only six left, let's make them great!

Update

Tonight! Family Group Ride. Meet at the Orem Mad Dog Cycles location ready to leave by 6 pm. Remember, everyone should have and wear a helmet.

Thursday Group Ride Payson Canyon. Two meeting places: Orem Mad Dog Cycles at 5:30 pm. Payson Mc Donalds at 6 pm, from here we will head up the canyon.

Invite your friends, bring your family and enjoy the ride.

Group Ride

We will be riding Corner Canyon in Draper on Thursday. Meet at the Orem Mad Dog Cycles location at 5:30 pm. The group will then car pool and reconvene at Andy Ballard Equestrian Park. Draper has done an amazing job developing and maintaining city trails and has a great trail system to show for it. Again, invite your friends family and co-workers.

Tour de Habitat

Mad Dog Cycles is sponsoring the Tour de Habitat in correspondence with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday August 21st at 2:00 p.m. This is a great ride that also offers a pair of socks, a ticket to the Orem Owls game, and some food all for $20 for adults, $5 for kids, or $50 for the whole family.

Season Finale

Summer has come and is now almost gone. With it's passing we also come to the end of another Intermountain Cup race season. This series of races, put on by Ed Chauner and his team, is the highlight and focus of our season. The races are well organized and range from the desert to the high mountains, fast and rolling to technical and steep. The variety of courses and locations keeps things interesting and makes for a challenging race season.

While the team finished 2nd overall, many of the individual riders from our group made the podium for their categories for the season. KC Holley finished 1st in Pro Women showing her dedication to the series and overall consistency. Chris Holley finished 3rd in Pro Men despite a less than stellar year by his own admission. Kevin Moffitt moved to Expert Men 40+ this year and dominated the category finishing first. Joseph Moffitt also finished in the top 3 of his category despite moving to Pro near the end of the season.
Other notable series finishes:
Greg Johnson: 3rd in Clydesdale
Kendra Clark: 3rd in Sport Women
Jen Hodnett: 2nd in Expert Women
Bruce Lyman: 1st in 50+ Men
Brad Mullen: 1st in 57+ Men
Bill Dark: 3rd in 57+ Men
Keith Payne: 3rd in 40+ Sport Men
Phil Benson: 4th in Single Speed
Adam Lisonbee: 7th in Expert Men 30-39
Wendy Cope: 4th in 35+ Women
Dorothy Gibson: 5th in 35+ Women

Overall it was a great season, mainly due to well-organized races and a great team. Thanks to all our team riders who rode with us this year. Still more to happen this year but I'm already looking forward to 2011.

Thank you also to our Sponsors who made our team possible:
